New Year’s Resolutions For Your Vehicle

Starting Your Vehicle Off Right In The New Year

Just like you, your vehicle needs a fresh start this year. A little TLC now can go a long way in preventing big problems down the road. Here are some New Year's resolutions for your vehicle to help keep it running smoothly all year long.

1. Get an oil change and tune-up.

This is probably the most important resolution on the list. Fresh oil and a tune-up can help improve your gas mileage and prevent costly engine repairs.

2. Check your tires.

Making sure your tires are properly inflated can help improve your gas mileage by up to 3%. It's also a good idea to have them rotated and balanced every 5,000 miles or so to prevent uneven wear.

3. Exchange your fluids.

Over time, your engine's coolant, brake fluid, and power steering fluid can become contaminated and need to be replaced. These are all easy things to do yourself, but if you're not comfortable doing it, any reputable mechanic can take care of it for you.

4. Clean or replace your air filter.

A dirty air filter can restrict airflow to your engine and decrease performance. You should check it every 10,000 miles or so and clean or replace it as needed.

5. Get a yearly inspection.

In some states, vehicles are required to pass an annual safety inspection in order to be legally driven on the roadways. This is a good opportunity to catch any potential problems before they become bigger, more expensive issues later down the road.

Taking care of your vehicle doesn't have to be a daunting task. By following these simple New Year's resolutions for your vehicle, you can help keep it running all year long without breaking the bank.
